Free public sky viewing at Ladd Observatory on Tuesday nights. ****

Ladd Observatory in Providence "Thrill to the sights of globular clusters, the moon, Saturn, binary stars, and more -- at the Ladd Observatory in Providence on clear Tuesday nights. Students in the field of astrophysics from Brown University guide the star-studded spectacle, which on a typical night can draw over forty visitors. The first floor of the Observatory houses a rich historical museum of photographic treasures and technological artifacts. On the second floor resides the great famous telescope built in 1893. On the upper deck, the Brown experts share a wealth of articulate information about space and time. In addition to the main telescope housed under a sliding dome, an array of modern telescopes is also present for public viewing. Questions are answered and the mind is stimulated during this informal setting under the stars." -- Ralph D

The artists' opening receptions held at the Warwick Center for the Arts. ***

Warwick art museum "Unique and plentiful talent is represented in a casual atmosphere of artistic and social interaction in a small but well-organized reception room of the museum. Most of the time the food consists of limited table offerings: pastries, pizza, soda, etc. The artists are friendly and the staff is courteous." -- Ralph D

The Providence Art Club in Rhode Island "The Providence Art Club offers a rich representation of artistic talent in spacious galleries designed with comfortable elegance in mind. The artists' receptions occur at regular intervals throughout the year and often feature splendid background music, spirited discussions, and swarms of art-minded guests. The free refreshments offer a small banquet of cheese, crackers, cookies and more -- as well as free wine on some occasions. Meetup. *** ½

"The Meetup groups are free to join for the most part, and unite like-minded people in almost all areas of shared interest: politics, sports, science, hobbies, social pursuits, etc. Some groups attract more members than others, and some of the activities in each group are more well-attended than others. But there's definitely a social element. The idea behind Meetup is to offer a simple means for members to aggregate from all walks of life into common places of access: a restaurant, hiking trail, movie event, etc. One great feature is that you can search the Meetup site to find groups within a certain geographical distance, based on one's specific area of interest." -- Fearless Bob

Plenty of Fish free dating site. ** ½

"Plenty of Fish (pof) is a free online dating site with hundreds (if not thousands) of local members. Unlike most dating sites, pof allows members to contact and meet one another without first requiring a fee. The Web site has good navigation and good search features to help the user select a prospect based on distance, age, height, weight, interests, religion, etc. The banner and text ads on pof often border on the suggestive or distasteful, depending on one's point of view. The site has a plethora of distracting ads." -- Ralph D
